American Globe Theatre's 2012/2013 Season

As we embark upon our 24th season we take a pause to reflect upon what we have accomplished as the longest running off-off Broadway theatre in Times Square. Over the past two decades we have produced over 100 Shakespeare productions, readings and lectures. Theatre lives on and re-invents itself by sharing experiences and knowledge with new artists and audiences. This season marks a transitional one for us as we are making a conscious effort to encourage emerging artists who have studied and worked at AGT by sharing our space with them. We invite you to experience their unique vision and insight into Shakespeare. Please join us in welcoming them into our midtown theatre home.

American Bard presents KING LEAR by William Shakespeare

Directed by Dev Bondarin

October 18 - November 4

Thursday- Saturday at 7:30 pm, Sunday at 2:00 pm

King Lear gives us a profound look at the relationship between madness and sanity, impiety and devotion, and, most simply: parents and children. The tragedy lies in its vivid dramatization of what happens when choices fueled by fear and greed spiral out of control. With the story of the aging Lear and his three daughters--two wicked and one true-- Shakespeare ultimately shows us that honesty and love can challenge the chaos and cruelty that attempts to obliterate it.

Accidental Shakespeare Company presents..

THE WINTER'S TALE, Saturday, November 24th @ 7:00 pm

TWELFTH NIGHT, Saturday, January 5 @ 7:00 pm

These Hit & Run Shakespeare events feature an ensemble of actors who come together for one night only to create a fully staged production of these Shakespeare classics. All of the actors have memorized their lines and have fully developed characters but there is NO director, NO rehearsal and NO plan. Just pure spontaneous fun. Each actor costumes themselves and is required to bring one random prop to bring to the play. They encourage the audience to contribute props as well. This talented troupe believes that the joy of live theatre lies in its accidents and screw-ups and by watching actors deal with them creatively. They embrace the philosophy "Play On" by bringing elements of improvisation to classical text. Please join us in welcoming them to our midtown home.
